The tables above were developed to help musicians transpose parts for instruments keyed to different pitches. Let’s assume that the alto sax is to be given the same part as the trumpet and that the trumpet is scored in the key of "F". The transposition guide tells that the alto sax should be in the key of "C". There are 7 half-steps from "F" to "C". With the score in NoteWorthy Composer, copy the trumpet part to a new staff. Name the new staff "Alto Sax" and go to: 1) Tools; 2) Transpose Staff; and 3) Transpose up 7 semitones. Both instruments will now play the same part.
