How do I delete Text, etc without deleting notes underneath?

If you have not Preserved Width for an inserted item (Text, Tempo, Dynamic, etc), this item does not have a width on the staff. This allows notes to be placed directly under the item. Since the item has no width for you to select, a small gray diamond is placed to the left of the item. The diamond gives you something to select for editing or deleting.

When you want to delete, copy or edit the items without width, the focus will be the diamond - not the item.

To delete the item, place the insertion point to the left of the diamond and press delete. Or, place the insertion point to the right of the diamond and press back space. Or, select the diamond and press delete.

To copy the item, select the diamond and press Ctrl+C.

To edit the item, select the diamond and press Alt+Enter.
